On the 19th Febuary 2011, the Melbourne members of the Borgward Car Club of Australia were visited by Lars Kallborn who is a Borgward enthusiast from Sweden. Lars has been talking to Roy Capper from the club, amongst others, over time via the Internet and was eager to see some of the Australian Borgwards in person. Roger Day was kind enough to put on a BBQ for the club members and show members through his very large garage where he house a number of very rare Borgward vehicles.
Club members who enjoyed the day were Phil Soderstrom in his bright red Goliath, Ray Harrison in his silver Coupe, Anthony Ramadge in his red Coupe and new member John King who turned up in his cream Coupe that he had just purchased that week. A great many hours were spent looking over these cars as well as Roger's fully restored blue TS, his current project yellow Combi, future projects Hansa 1100 and very rare early Hansa 1500 as well as Roger's early Volvo Amazon and 1930's Pontiac.
Lars is a very enthusiastic Borgward owner and publisher of a very interesting website http://www.angelfire.com/co/borgward/ which is one of the best indexes of Borgward websites on the Internet. Lars asked each owner the history of their car and took many photographs of the assembled cars. We enjoyed hearing his stories of running old cars in his native Sweden and the very cold weather. Rust would seem to be a major problem as Sweden lays salt on their icy roads.
